Exemplary Weather and Energy (EWE) Index November 2024

The Exemplary Real Time Year weather files (RTYs), current Reference Meteorological Year files (RMYs) and Ersatz Future Meteorological Years (EFMYs) used for these monthly simulations are available for purchase. This will allow clients to simulate their own designs for energy budgeting and monitoring rather than rely on analogy with the performance of these archetypical buildings and systems. ADELAIDE

Energy Index (%)

The solar PV simulation output results were 3.5% lower than the long-term average. The cooling peak load was significantly lower than the long-term average for 3- and 10-storey office buildings, by 20.1% and 55.2%, respectively, and slightly lower for supermarkets, at 5.5%. It should be noted that peak load results are highly sensitive to the particular building and HVAC design and settings – it is more appropriate to evaluate those results from a bespoke building model using our RTY data.

Adelaide experienced a more humid and warmer November compared to the long-term average. The GHI was similar while wind speed was lower than the long-term average.

BRISBANE

Energy Index (%)

The solar PV simulation output was significantly lower than the long-term average by 19.8%. The cooling peak load was lower than the long-term average for 3-storey and 10-storey office buildings, by 3.5% and 4.0%, respectively, but 16.9% higher for supermarkets. It should be noted that peak load results are highly sensitive to the particular building and HVAC design and settings – it is more appropriate to evaluate those results from a bespoke building model using our RTY data.

Brisbane experienced a more humid and slightly warmer November compared to the long-term average. The GHI was much lower and wind speed was slightly lower than the long-term average.

CANBERRA

Energy Index (%)

The solar PV simulation output results were 11.0% lower than the long-term average. The cooling peak load was 25.1%, 54.2% and 31.3% higher for the 3-storey office, 10-storey office and supermarket respectively. It should be noted that peak load results are highly sensitive to the particular building and HVAC design and settings – it is more appropriate to evaluate those results from a bespoke building model using our RTY data.

Canberra experienced similar humidity with warmer November temperatures compared to the long-term average. The GHI was much lower while wind speed was similar to the long-term average.

DARWIN

Energy Index (%)

The solar PV simulation output results were 11.0% lower than the long-term average. The cooling peak load was 6.9%, 6.3% lower for the 3-storey office and 10-storey office while 1.0% higher for the supermarket respectively. It should be noted that peak load results are highly sensitive to the particular building and HVAC design and settings – it is more appropriate to evaluate those results from a bespoke building model using our RTY data.

Darwin experienced more humidity and slightly cooler temperatures in November compared to the long-term average. The GHI was lower and wind speed was slightly lower than the long-term average.

The solar PV simulation output results were 7.5% higher than the long-term average. The cooling peak load was lower than the long-term average for 3- and 10-storey office buildings, by 21.5% and 22.3%, respectively, while significantly higher for supermarkets, at 74.0%. It should be noted that peak load results are highly sensitive to the particular building and HVAC design and settings – it is more appropriate to evaluate those results from a bespoke building model using our RTY data.

Hobart experienced similar temperatures and a slightly more humid November compared to the long-term average. The GHI was lower while wind speed was similar to the long-term average.

MELBOURNE

Energy Index (%)

The solar PV simulation output results were 5.8% higher than the long-term average. The cooling peak load was lower than the long-term average for all archetypes (11.2%, 8.9% and 1.1% for 3-storey office, 10-storey office and supermarket respectively). It should be noted that peak load results are highly sensitive to the particular building and HVAC design and settings – it is more appropriate to evaluate those results from a bespoke building model using our RTY data.

Melbourne experienced slightly more humidity and warmer temperatures in November compared to the long-term average. The GHI was slightly higher than the long-term average.

The solar PV simulation output results were 0.3% lower than the long-term average. Compared to the long-term average, the cooling peak load was 26.7% and 24.8% lower for 3-storey office and 10-storey office, but 7.8% higher for supermarket. It should be noted that peak load results are highly sensitive to the particular building and HVAC design and settings – it is more appropriate to evaluate those results from a bespoke building model using our RTY data.

Perth had similar temperature in November compared to the long-term average. The GHI was higher in the afternoon and wind speed was higher than the long-term average.

The solar PV simulation output results were 13.3% lower than the long-term average. Compared to the long-term average, the cooling peak load was 24.1%, 20.3% and 9.9 % lower for 3-storey office, 10-storey office and supermarket respectively.
