NSW Hosts Best Performing Wind Farms in March

In March, New South Wales (NSW) showcased its renewable energy prowess as it powered half of Australia’s top-performing wind farms and helped the country’s largest grid generate more electricity from wind and solar than any other state. A report from Rystad Energy reveals that NSW generated a staggering 1010 gigawatt hours of electricity from wind (492GWh) and large-scale solar (518GWh) during the month, outperforming other states in terms of output, despite lagging behind in market share.

Among the top-performing wind assets, Acciona’s Gunning wind farm north of Canberra stood out with a remarkable capacity factor of 43.7%, surpassing the Liddell coal generator’s peak of 38%. As the last three units of Liddell coal generator are set to be closed this month, the achievements of the Gunning wind farm and other high-performing assets like APA Group’s Badingarra wind farm in Western Australia (43.7% capacity factor) and the Biala wind farm in NSW (41.4% capacity factor) signal a promising future for renewable energy in Australia.
